Take a break from my usual ramblings as I turn this space over to my lovely wife. This was originally written for a promotion out company had. But I loved her words and wanted to share with you. -RD
Being Ageless is more than skin deep. It’s about living a full life and the legacy that I will leave behind. I have a desire in my heart to touch the lives of those who are often forgotten. The mom who feels like she’s failing her family because she doesn’t have a hot meal on the table, or the dad that can’t provide and the kid that misses school because there is snow on the ground but he doesn’t have boots. I am thankful for the people who give donations to organizations that help these people. We would be no where with out them. There is a face behind that need, and I need to see them. They need to be seen.
As the face of ageless I would like to bring attention to the people that we pass on the streets each day that are struggling and the organizations that help them. On the second Saturday morning of each month after the basket ball game just before the hair cuts my husband and I drive our kids in to a bad neighborhood. The kind of place my husband wouldn’t let me drive alone. We unload the car into the local elementary school cafeteria and with just a few volunteers; we distribute groceries to more than 100 families. For those few hours, we step outside of our comfort zone. We look for a need and we seek to fill it. Hungry? Here are some groceries. Need a coat? Here take mine. We take the time to meet the most basic of needs and give these families just a little bit of what I take for granted. Listening to their stories, making them feel seen. For a few hours they are not faceless.
Why am I the face of Ageless? I am your average woman, wife, mother, volunteer, living a less than average life. I am leaving behind a legacy that goes beyond my front door.
