The Price for Success

By Randy Gage
July 8, 2011

Paying the price.

There are a lot of people who want to sell you stuff. And some of them feel the easiest way is telling you what you want to hear. Selling you automated systems, lead programs, do it all from home in your bunny slippers, and assorted “build your downline for you” bullshit.

It sure would be nice if it were that easy. But it’s not.

The people who sell all that stuff make their money mining the miners. You need to take your advice from people that actually cash bonus checks. And those people work.

If you want to have real duplication, create success, and help your people become successful, it’s going to take work. And also throw in belief, investment, tenacity, and guts.

Work, because you’re going to need to go to presentations, travel to support long distance lines and attend some training events. Service retail customers. Follow up with prospects and counsel with your team members. And you’re going to need to do all this work, after you finish work each day.

Belief, because you’re going to face some rejection, dropouts, and skeptics. You live in a crazy world with lots of crazy people in it. Ninety percent are in jobs they don’t like or actually hate, yet because it’s all they know, they ridicule anyone who isn’t a cog in the collective like them.

Investment, because any business requires it. And you’d be an idiot to think you don’t need to invest in this one. Buying a distributor kit and your first product order gets you in the door. That’s when the real investment just begins…

Marketing materials. Product autoship. Self-development materials. Event tickets and travel. A website. Phone bills, fuel for your car and postage. But if you’re not willing to invest in you, it’s probably a bad investment for anyone else. And remember this:

The only thing that costs more than your dream – is the cost of not having one.

Tenacity, because you’re not going to make it in a couple months. Success in Network Marketing is a two- to five-year plan. Yeah I know you want it to be faster. So do I. But how long would it take you to be free in your day job? For most or you (and your prospects), you could work 40 or 50 years in that, and still retire broke.

And finally, you’re going to need…

Guts. Because success isn’t for the timid. You’re surrounded by people who want to give you permission to stay where you are. And many will feel threatened when you start to move up. And for every person with the guts to become great, there are dozens who will try to drag you back into mediocrity.

These people want you to drive a brokemobile, order pizza based on who you have a 50 cents off coupon from, and watch five hours of mindless sitcoms a night just like they do. It takes guts to break out of the Matrix. But look at the alternative.

I thanked you earlier for your efforts sharing the last post. I hope you’ll really go nuts sharing this one. Because it’s really, really important. Then bookmark it, print it out and stick it in your planner. Read it whenever you need a reminder.

Success never goes on sale. Be willing to pay the market price.

Be A Life Coach

Randy Gage has a brilliant piece about becoming a life coach to your team members on his Network Marketing Times page. Take a look under the hood.

If you want to be attractive to prospects, and want to be more helpful to your team members, become a life coach.

Don’t try to be a psychiatrist. (Although sometimes it sure feels that way!) Just truly care about people, and what’s going on in their lives.

When I counsel with my team members, we look at who their upcoming leaders are, where they should work long distance, how many presentations they should do, and many things like that. But the real bulk of what we discuss is the other stuff…

How to reduce friction in their marriage, solve personality conflicts with key people, when to quit their job, buy a house, or reduce their debt.

One of the biggest draws in network marketing is the community we provide. Yes the money, cars and trips are cool. But the sexiest stuff is stronger marriages, better relationships with their kids, friendship, fellowship, and happiness.

So don’t get blinded by the bonus checks and rank advancement. Help people make their lives work better and the business will improve all by itself.

There's a First Time For Everything

Network marketing is a great opportunity for people to have their first business. The point is this, recognize it for what it is: it's a business, and you are a business owner. If you've never owned a business before, if you've never done sales before, you need to learn about how to do so, not just from the network marketing/MLM experts, but from established experts in those type of fields.
Network marketers who are serious about building this business should spend time reading and learning about the business fundamentals, the latest sales and marketing techniques, strategies for networking and business development, etc., not just swapping tips at your team's weekly conference calls. If you act like a small business owner, people will treat you like one.

The Courage To Dream

Randy Gage has a great piece about having the courage to dream on his Network Marketing Times page. Check it out.

Did you really catch the meaning of that title? Please read it again.

Do you really get how much courage it takes to dream?

It’s so easy to “be realistic,” “not get your hopes up,” or settle for mediocrity. To dream means you hope. It means you dare. It means you have a chance to lose.

That takes guts. Courage.

Lamborghini’s are safe in the garage. Ships are safe in the port. Jets are safe at the gate. But that’s not what those things are for.

Please. Have a prosperity map. Put some pictures on your fridge. Get a brochure for your next bonus car and award trip. Awaken your dreams again. Because they will pull you toward them.

Have the courage to dream BIG. Because you’re worth it.

Advice For New Network Marketers

Our good friend Eric Worre asked on his Network Marketing Pro Facebook page for some advice for someone brand new in the business. More than 130 people responded with just a line of two of words. There was quite a range of ideas represented. Here are just a few.

-RD

Network Marketing Pro

If you were to give advice to someone who just joined Network Marketing for the first time TODAY, what would it be? Share your wisdom please...

Scott Ayres Don't annoy people...

Joleen Sims Go for no. Don't take rejection personal - grow from it - MOVE ON.

Eric Ferrari Follow your leaders. Follow the plan. Don't give up.. ever !!!

Kevin Burns Things may not go as planned but NEVER give up and know that ALL YOUR HARD WORK will Pay Off!!

Bosun Jones Always keep your dreams alive, stay focused and work hard

Jonathan Namath Have patience, be persisent BUT most important of all - BUILD RELATIONSHIPS!!!!!! Get to know people. The last thing you want is to be accused of vomiting your opportunity all over someone who you met only 30 seconds before. :)

Frank McKinney Find someone who is successful in it and do what they do. Find a mentor.

Sylvia Bourassa Enthusiasm + Action = SUCCESS!!!

Derek Lee Listen to Jim Rohn's Building Your Network Marketing Business 10x and let it sink in

Nick Castrellon Be honest, serve your prospects and your downline, develop yourself and have fun.

Cheryl Scott Sweeney Be patient and don't sacrifice your personal relationships for the sake of building your business.

Silver Andbrittany find a mentor who has what you want ..not just financially...but with the type of ppl you want around you..the type of vision you want to achieve...and the type of passion you want to embody.

Ashleigh Towers Don't give up on your dreams, no matter what.

Emma Hicks Plug into the system... be persistent.. never give up... call me every day... follow the script...

Martin Sörensson Dont think, Just do it. Network Marketing people tend to watch videos, listen to tapes, read books and attend meetings. But they forget the most importand thing, and I was one of them, doing it. There is no short cut to success, there is no secret plan to success. Its like an old man said to me when I was a child. He was a successful man who trained racehorses for a living. He said to me: Hard work! Thats the secret.

Dennis Johnson Trust in your upline. Only listen to your mentor but choose that mentor wisely. VISION + ACTION equals SUCCESS

Chris Unger Surrender yourself, and do exactly what the system teaches you. If the system works, there is no need to reinvent the wheel. The system MUST be simple for you to do, that even a kid can understand it.

Dennis Johnson Do not depend on your downline to make you successful. You have to do it with or without a large downline to help you.

Dennis Dybdal Olesen ‎"you have my help to acheive the goals you've just made, but in the end I can only help you. It's entirely up to you, if and when you reach them. Remember this is called Network Marketing, it's a business of marketing, not sales. No matter the strugle think 5 years ahead and hang in there, keep educating your self. "

Sassi Jacob Ozman Schou Take Immediate Action Right NOW! And follow the system of your upline...

Jay Cusimano Realize from the start that most people you talk to do not have any understanding that Network Marketing has a right way to do it and a wrong way not to do it. Failure comes from stupidity when you practice it or let it burst your bubble from the nay saying moron!

Tere Shields Treat this like a job until you you develop into a business owner, always be professional & work harder on yourself than you do the business.

Lea Simoni Reed Get up and go to work everyday

Ken Bradley Find the right fit, be patient, don't give-up, don't lose enthusiasm, and never let 'em see you sweat ;-

Gregory J McKenzie Read "The Business of the 21st Century" by Robert Kiyosaki

'Micah Carter Someone said don't annoy people..... lol well that comes with the territory....start annoying alot of people!!!

'Micah Carter Main advice...follow EVERY SINGLE THING your upline executive teaches you and stay closely connected to that person....all the people in your upline...but really stay plugged in to your upline executive!!

Dorine Mutanda Mukoya Have your WHYs in place to keep on keeping on

Scott Carpenter Focusing on helping others first! By helping others be successful, you will also be successful. Instead of worrying about doing the things to put money in your pocket today, use your energy to put money in the pocket of your down-line! Honor God and respect yourself and others you come in contact with each day.

Roy Gamino Go hard or go home !

M Rahim Afridi you are well come to the journey of success, it is very easy & simple work........... we will all get success from this opportunity.........and share the stories of successful people........

Jay Cusimano I like what Scott Carpenter said about helping downline earn money. I have seen the most failures when a person gets greedy! I also got the absolutel most hateful rejections from family, even those that flopped at "normal business" attempts and had borrowed money from us and others that they never repaid!

Nick Castrellon We can go on and on and on with this. I got another one…always attend MAJOR functions as it will be one of the biggest investments as a tool to build your business. The stuff that goes on is almost life-changin

Jaysal Bhardwa Have a strong enough reason to want to be successful. Otherwise there is no point.

Sharon Cousins Stay around the fire!

Mack Ahoo Don't be scared to try. :)

David Prosser Be consistant and DON'T QUIT!

Robert Elsinga Write down your promises and map out with your enroller how you going to achieve them and focuss with passion no matter the “sun blockers“ out there

Tommy Hammer Always dream, forget about dreamstealers, stay focused at your goal , keep helping your team and never quit.

Danny Maesela Lebelo Itspromising There is two people in this world, losers and winners so losers says even if its possible it is difficult but the winners says it may b difficult but it is possible

Trista Barstow Focus on a few people/actions at a time so you don't overwhelm yourself and you can do a better job. Give yourself time, but STAY CONSISTANT! Always do something postive to better yourself every day... Read a few pages in a self-empowerment book, learn something new about your feild of business, etc. There are tons of books and online info... Never stop learning!!! and have FUN! :)

Mark Likarevic First I would establish there why's for the business. Set goals break them down to a daily activity. Stay plugged into the system. Start to personal develop give them a jim rohn building your network marketing business, think and grow rich and your first year in network marketing, if obstacles arise remember to keep your focus on where your going to be. And one last thing be here a year from now never quit!

Jhon Mark be excited. believe in what you do read books listen to audio books share it helps other to rich they goals integrity honest love what you do flow your dream and don't give up

Brian Hager Take Action!

Mahmoud Amin Make helping others your gratest goal, be teachable, have a big vision, have a desire for your goals, do your all best and don't stop until you reach your goals. It is your chance to succeed in life and get free.

Mike Bonomo Treat it like a business not a hobby.

Cathy Fry Never give up ... build relationships ... talk to people, talk to people, talk to people ...

Tony Schwartz Be consistent. A little each day is better than bursts here and there. Know and be passionate about your product/service. Educate people-don't push them. Be willing to help others. Be patient-it takes time.

Andrew Smith It's a rollercoaster. Sometimes exhilarating, sometimes stomach turning. It's worth the ride. Have tenacity and never lose your integrity.

Derrick Carpenter Don't re-invent the wheel simply follow the system that has been set in place. And keep your enthusiasm

Tom Warga Listen close, take notes if you have to, save everything you can, go back &listen to it all again as a reminder.

Darren Adams Doing this business is like taking out a 12 month gym. Success or results are measurable according to correctly applied input. Don't expect overnight success remember we're building a pipeline and while carrying buckets of water (paid by the hour)we see instant results, it when we have a well constructed pipeline (organisation)where water (our product line) flows. This is the outstanding opportunity we have in our hands with this industry always remember it

Karthik Kash dream big. Everything else will become possible.

Ryan Biddulph Begin working your network marketing business from Day 1. Learn to work at it each day, everyday. People who hit the ground running and remain persistent become super successful in this industry, and I would have shortened my learning curve by months if not years had I adopted this mindset from Day 1.

Renaldo Epps Stick and Stay and Get your pay

Grace McErlain McCarthy Learn the basic skills of retailing, recruiting and most importantly coaching others. Work with your upline or someone else's upline- but build your confidence and competence in doing that activity.

Sylvie Lariviere Be yourself, believe in yourself and sell yourself as a brand...be a postivie impact on people.

When Frustration is Good

Randy Gage has a great piece about the power of frustration on his Network Marketing Times page. Check it out.

Are you happy? I hope so. Are you frustrated? I hope so too.

Because one of the best things that can happen in Network Marketing is frustration. The frustration with the gap between where you are, and where you want to be.

The key to growing faster is keeping the right size gap between your reality and your dream…

If it’s too big and doesn’t seem achievable, you’ll get dejected and give up. If it’s too small, it won’t inspire you to action. So if you want to dial up your growth – dial up your frustration!
